Kuwait City: Mubarak Al-Jafour, the director general of the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), confirmed on Thursday that the State of Kuwait is committed to upholding and defending human rights, combating human trafficking, and fostering a protective culture. Al-Jafour, who is also a member of the National Committee for the Implementation of the National Strategy to Prevent Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, made this statement in a press statement on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day to Combat Trafficking in Persons.

As the United Nations General Assembly declared July 30 of every year to be the International Day for Combating Trafficking in Persons in 2013, Al-Jafour urged the need for coordinated societal efforts to prevent this transnational crime. He continued, stressing that the provision of protection and assistance to these individuals was done in accordance with applicable international standards, that the adoption of the national referral system had effectively contributed to the identification of victims of human trafficking and subsequent investigation and prosecution. It is noteworthy that the State of Kuwait formed a national committee to prevent trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants under Cabinet Resolution No. 261 in 2018, which includes in its membership the relevant government agencies in the light of the provisions of Law No. 91 of 2013.

Additionally, a specialist division has been created to fight human trafficking. It is a part of the General Department of Criminal Investigation in 2015 and is tasked with implementing the law's text and developing a specialized prosecution in these situations.
