FISHING FOR SHRIMP IN KUWAIT SEA BEGINS ON AUGUST 1

Kuwait City: Zaher Al-Suwayan, the head of the Kuwaiti Federation of Fishermen, announced that the season for shrimp fishing will start on August 1 in Kuwaiti waters and on September 1 in regional waters. He emphasised that the locally popular shrimp will return to the market after a seven-month break and expressed the fishermen's hopes that the season will be prosperous despite indicators to the contrary, as happened in the previous season due to non-compliance.

Al-Suwayan urged the concerned fishing sector authorities to work on enforcing international agreements and requesting neighbouring countries to tighten control during the ban and to limit their entry to farmed and frozen shrimp, noting that what is actually happening is real abuses and non-compliance with agreements regarding the protection of fish wealth, especially in the common stock. He also called on the authorities to take action against any violations of local laws. This has a detrimental effect on the State of Kuwait's fish richness relative to other nations in the region.
