SECURITY PERSONNEL AT AIRPORTS PROTEST AND DEMAND RIGHTS

Kuwait City: The decision to switch the shifting system from three working days and two days off to six working days and two days off recently prompted a number of employees of the Airport Security Department at Kuwait International Airport to take an hour off of work in protest. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Acting Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled approved the shift allowance for airport security inspectors, according to sources, who also said that the decision was made after the workers demanded that their rights be recognised.

According to sources, the protest was intended to send a message to the interior minister that their rights have been repeatedly violated and that the nature of their work has changed without any formal announcement or directive from the Civil Service Commission.

Sources added the department took action based on a verbal decision. For the second time this month, the Kuwait Airways cabin crew demonstrated their admirable professionalism and skill in handling emergency situations.

On Sunday, the crew of a Kuwait Airways flight (KU117) headed for New York City, United States of America, was successful in assisting a pregnant woman to give birth inside the aircraft. In order to ensure that its staff members are always prepared to handle emergency situations, Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) claims to regularly conduct integrated training programmes for them.
