BEEKEEPING IN KUWAIT IS GOVERNED BY PAAAFR

Kuwait City: Dr. Mohammed Al-Ahmad, the chairman of the board of directors of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR), made a decision governing beekeeping in Kuwait. The regulation states that the authority must oversee the beekeeping industry and work to protect it. To do this, the authority must create plans, programmes, and guidance services, work with the necessary authorities, and more. The distance between the beehives and the roads used by vehicles must be at least 50 metres.

According to the rules established by the relevant authorities, the number of cells should be proportional to the size of the land. Any illness or pest that threatens the bee colonies must be reported by the beekeeper.

The authority is in charge of issuing permits for the import and export of bees, food supplies, and beekeeping equipment. It also oversees the markets for bee products and forbids the use of chemical pesticides or antibiotics to control diseases or pests during the plant's flowering season.

The authority will work to protect the local bee breed and bee pastures, set up beehives and feeding operations, and issue licences to practise beekeeping. This profession will only be open to citizens, with the exception of employees working for specialised businesses that have been granted licences by the authority to engage in the activity of caring for bee colonies and using them to produce bee products. In order to complete all transactions and procedures for the regulation electronically, the regulation highlighted the possibility of developing an electronic platform for the bee system on the Internet within the PAHW platform or the Sahel platform.
