Traffic department: Driving licenses of expats will now be renewed for only 1 year

Kuwait City: The traffic department announced on Sunday that the drivers' licenses of a expatriates will no longer be renewed for three years, but rather for just one. April 26, 2023, was the effective date of the decision. However, the department stated that foreign nationals who drive domestically will have their licenses renewed for three years. The  announcement, made by Major Abdullah Bu Hasan, was not accompanied by a justification for changing to a one-year license validity period. 

However, amid claims of widespread corruption, interior ministry stated a few weeks ago that it is checking hundreds of thousands of driving licenses given to expatriates to make sure they were issued in compliance with the rules.
