A United Nations report revealed that despite the growth of women's rights organizations and social movements over the past ten years, the world's progress toward gender equality has remained stagnant. Nearly nine out of ten men and women worldwide, were found to have "at least one" fundamental bias against women, according to the study.

The Gender Social Norms Index (GSNI) report, which was released by the UN Development Program, focuses on examining the advancements made in women's rights and related issues over the past ten years.
