China drills super boreholes in search of natural resources

Chinese engineers initiated the construction of a new, ultra-deep borehole, as the country intensifies its search for resources deep in the Earth's crust on Thursday. The borehole is expected to reach a depth of 10,520 metres (33,514 feet), located in the southwestern province of Sichuan, according to Xinhua, the official news agency of the Chinese government. 

This announcement comes just a few weeks after the country began drilling another ultra-depth borehole, which, if successful, would be one of two ultra-deep boreholes ever constructed by humans.
