India's Chandrayaan-3 successfully touched down the moon

India has achieved a milestone in space history, as its Moon mission has become the first to make a soft landing in the south pole region of the Moon. This marks India's entry into the exclusive club of countries that have achieved soft landings on the Moon. 

At 18:04 local time (12:34 GMT), the Vikram lander, part of the India-Chandrayaan-3 mission, successfully touched down as scheduled. This has sparked a wave of celebration across the country, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that "India is on the Moon".
