The U.S. Department of Commerce has denied that it has blocked the sale of AI chips to the Middle East, following the disclosure in a report by Nvidia that the US government had extended export licensing requirements for AI chips. Similar letters were sent to AMD.

The Commerce Department has not indicated whether the requirements have been imposed on any particular U.S. company. However, according to the filing, the new rules will necessitate that both Nvidia and AMD obtain licenses prior to the sale of flagship chips to certain Middle Eastern countries.
