Al-Ujairi Scientific Center marks a unique astronomical phenomenon

  • 17/03/2024

The Al-Ujairi Scientific Center has announced that the planet Mercury has commenced its elongation journey today, Sunday, and will reach its farthest distance from the Sun on March 24. This event is considered significant in the field of astronomy, providing a unique opportunity to observe Mercury from Earth's surface for an extended period during the evening sky above the western horizon post-sunset. Typically, Mercury is obscured by the Sun's glare for most of the year due to its proximity to the Sun's orbit.

The center also noted that the last time Mercury reached its maximum elongation with the Sun above the western horizon was on Thursday, August 10, 2023 AD, and it will reach this point again on Sunday, March 24.
