  • 14/03/2025

Kuwaiti authorities have arrested seven Jordanian women as part of an anti-begging campaign led by the General Department of Residence Affairs Investigations. Acting on directives from Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahd Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, the crackdown aims to curb illegal begging and uphold public order. The arrested individuals have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action, with deportation measures in place based on their residency status.

Officials have reinforced strict penalties under various residency categories. Sponsors under family sponsorship (Article 22) will face deportation alongside the violator, while private sector employers (Article 18) risk business closures. Domestic workers (Article 20) involved in begging will be deported, with their employers banned from future sponsorships. Additionally, individuals exploiting children for begging will face severe legal consequences. The Ministry of Interior urges the public to report instances of begging via its dedicated hotlines or the 24/7 emergency number.
