Dubai motorists can use dashcam footage to contest traffic fines, as it is legally permitted in the UAE. While installing a dashcam is not illegal, drivers must be mindful of privacy laws.
Sharjah Police has clarified that dashcam footage can serve as evidence in cases where a driver intentionally causes an accident. However, sharing such footage online without consent may lead to imprisonment and fines under UAE’s Cybercrimes Law, Penal Code, and Copyright Law. For the footage to be considered valid, it must clearly and accurately depict the incident.
Under Article 378 of the UAE Penal Code, recording a person without their permission is a privacy violation, which can result in legal action against the dashcam owner.
Abu Dhabi: Submit complaints via the Abu Dhabi Police e-complaints portal (cas.adpolice.gov.ae).
Dubai: File appeals at the General Directorate of Traffic headquarters in Al Barsha, a police station, or through the Dubai Public Prosecution website (www.dxbpp.gov.ae).
Other Emirates: Complaints can be lodged via the Ministry of Interior’s MOI app.
Authorities confirm that while dashcam footage can support traffic fine disputes, motorists must adhere to privacy laws to avoid penalties.
