SPECIAL LANE FOR CYCLISTS IN KUWAIT'S FUTURE CONTRACTS, SUGGESTION FOR STUDY

Kuwait City: The Ministry of Public Works has clarified the difficulties faced by the Public Roads and Land Transport Authority in changing the plans of existing highways to prepare a separate lane for cyclists. This can lead to changes in the dimensions and characteristics of the roads. The ministry said it had directed the design management to study the possibility of preparing a separate lane for cyclists in future contracts, giving them all the necessary traffic safety precautions.

The recommendations of the Municipal Council regarding the allotment of a cycle path on the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Bridge cannot be implemented. The bridge is designed for use by vehicles and trucks. Therefore, there is no special lane for cyclists, sources said. Public works officials said the municipal council's recommendations could not be considered as any changes to the bridge's design to make way for a special lane for cyclists would change the dimensions and features of the road.
