CITIZENS AND RESIDENTS HAVE EXPRESSED THEIR DISSATISFACTION WITH THE UNJUSTIFIED INCREASES IN COMMODITY COSTS

Kuwait City: Consumers, both nationals and expats, are enraged by a new wave of price spikes in a variety of items, including pharmaceuticals and food, in cooperative societies, confirming that the hike is deliberate in light of what is happening.

According to consumers, whatever is going on in terms of price hikes is strange, especially given the availability of all commodities, whether food, medicines, or other items, as well as the almost normal situation in the country despite the high number of Omicron infections, and there is no reason for concern, given global and health assurances that the virus is not dangerous.

The prices of commodities have risen dramatically everywhere — markets, cooperative societies, and even medicines — in what residents and citizens describe as an unprecedented wave of high prices, particularly for food and vegetables, with the rate of increase in the prices of some commodities reaching 35 percent in the last three months, and the prices of food commodities in Kuwait having increased significantly on an annual basis, according to official data.
