THE MINISTRY OF SOCIAL AFFAIRS INCREASES ITS GRIP ON 'COOPERATIVE' EMPLOYMENT

  • 24/01/2022

Kuwait City: The Cooperative Societies Control and Inspection Department, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Social Affairs, has authorised its inspectors to tighten control over national workforce recruitment procedures in general, particularly within cooperative societies, to ensure their actual presence on the job. This occurred after the daily released a news item headlined 'Inspection of national labour uncovers false employment in cooperative societies' on January 11, 2022.

According to the sources, the Ministry is trying to monitor any discrepancy in the monthly salaries the employees receive in order to protect the shareholders' money and not jeopardise the cooperative societies' financial circumstances. According to the sources, the ministry has obligated the "cooperatives" to follow a rational limited employment policy based on its actual needs, provided that the salary-to-sales ratio in executive and supervisory positions does not exceed 7%, according to the most recent financial report, without calculating exceptional sales periods, and specifying the procedures to be followed.
