RUSSIA AND UKRAINE HAVE PUT A STOP TO THE EXPORT OF TIMBER TO KUWAIT

Kuwait City: For various reasons, Russia and Ukraine have ceased shipping lumber to countries throughout the world, including Kuwait, according to the Ministry of Electricity and Water. These timber poles are used by the ministry to provide power to isolated border locations. According to reports, the ministry has enough wooden poles on hand, but there is a trend to employ metal columns in certain places after they have proven to be effective. The ministry, on the other hand, has received authorisation from the Central Agency for Public Tenders to issue a tender for a project to supply and construct combined cycle gas turbine units at the Subbiya station site, which will enhance electric generation by 900 megawatts. The deadline for submitting bids has been set for March 8.

According to the sources, this is one of the most essential and urgent projects on which the ministry is reliant in order to boost its strategic reserve of power in order to satisfy the country's annual increasing demand due to urbanisation, with present production at around 18,600 megawatts.
