GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS HAVE INSUFFICIENT SPACE, LACK OF DESKS AND CHAIRS IS BLAMED

Kuwait City: In addition to a lack of furniture, several educational districts claim that the number of students in the three academic levels in schools under their supervision has exceeded the maximum limit. According to the source, some classes included as many as 20 kids each group. This means that once face-to-face classes resume, there will be 40 kids per class, which the source claims is inappropriate for government schools.

The difficulty, according to the source, stems from the decision to halt the opening of new schools in specific residential areas due to the Corona crisis and a shortage of furniture in the Supply Department, which has already depleted its stock. He emphasised that the pandemic's negative effects on the Ministry of Education will last until the next academic year (2022-2023), coinciding with the approval of educational tenders for furniture, sanitation, maintenance, security, food, and transportation by the supervisory authorities. These tenders, he continued, are critical to the effective administration of schools.

The biggest issues that stand in the way of a complete return of face-to-face classes, according to the source, are hygiene, furniture, and many others. He disclosed that despite their administrations' efforts to hire daily labourers and domestic staff, several facilities of big secondary schools (high schools) remain dusty and look to have been neglected, despite the fact that each school only has three such personnel.
