PAFN WILL INVESTIGATE ELIMINATING THE NECESSITY FOR DELIVERY DRIVERS TO HAVE HEALTH CARD

Kuwait City: The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN) is considering eliminating the necessity for a health card to renew delivery truck licences. This measure, which was approved by PAFN's director general, was considered after a number of owners of the relevant enterprises submitted requests in this respect. This comes at a time when the government reported that 600 million people worldwide are infected with around 200 different diseases caused by tainted and dangerous food.

A group of delivery company owners asked the Chairperson of the PAFN Board of Directors and the Director General in charge of the authority, Dr. Reem Al-Fulaij, to ease the annual requirements placed on vehicles, particularly those related to the validity of the health card, before submitting the transaction. According to informed sources, some of the requirements imposed by PAFN on these vehicles are "far beyond its competence," such as the requirement for the driver to obtain a health card and have it valid when renewing vehicle books, as well as to place an advertisement on the vehicle indicating the delivery company.

Business owners say such measures hinder their work and raise the cost to them. The inability to renew the log book of the vehicle licenses stands as an obstacle to the renewal of work permits for the workers registered with delivery companies, especially since each worker’s residency is linked to the vehicle’s log book and its validity.
