KUWAIT RANKS SECOND AMONG SMOKERS IN GULF REGION

Kuwait City: The per capita cigarette consumption in Kuwait is estimated at 1,849 per year. This is stated in the report of the seventh edition of The Tobacco Atlas, an anti-smoking initiative of the American Cancer Society. With a per capita consumption of 1,955 cigarettes, Kuwait has the second highest rate in the region after Lebanon. Kuwait is followed by Libya with 1,764 cigarettes a year, the UAE with 438 cigarettes and Saudi Arabia with 485 cigarettes a year.


It is estimated that there are 1.1 billion smokers in the world. There are also millions of people who use other tobacco products. Cigarette use continues to be a global epidemic. The report also explained that the global health and economic costs of tobacco use have been devastating. In 2019, tobacco use caused more than 8.67 million deaths worldwide. More than 6.53 million men and 2.14 million women died. It is estimated that there are two trillion Kuwaiti dinars in addition to this.
