MINISTER OF INFORMATION ORDERS THE WITHDRAWL OF THE LICENSE OF 90 ELECTRONIC NEWSPAPERS

Kuwait City: In implementation of the laws and legislation regulating media work, and a commitment to control media practice on the line of responsible freedom and not to allow violating the regulating laws or slipping into media chaos, the Minister of Information and Culture, Dr. Hamad Rouh El-Din, referred 73 media outlets to the Public Prosecution during the past two weeks to take the necessary legal measures The decision also included the withdrawal of the license of 90 electronic newspapers, on the grounds of violations related to media laws.


The official spokesman for the Ministry of Information, Anwar Murad, said that the Media Violations Monitoring Committee recommended that these media outlets, which include electronic newspapers and satellite channels, be referred to the Public Prosecution for broadcasting and publishing news that included explicit violations of media laws (the Audio-Visual Law, the Publications and Publishing Law, and the Electronic Media Regulation Law). The committee recommended revoking the licenses of the violating electronic newspapers.

He also indicated that the Ministry, through the recently formed Media Violations Monitoring Committee, monitors all news accounts, electronic newspapers and satellite channels to ensure their compliance with the laws regulating this matter.
