UAE CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY IN DIPLOMACY

Dubai: H.H Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, confirmed that women constitute 43% of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' employees.


This came on the occasion of the UAE's celebration of the International Women's Day in Diplomacy, which falls on June 24 of each year, as the UAE is keen to empower women in diplomatic work at all levels through effective and influential participation inside and outside the country.

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in tweets published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its account on Twitter, said: "The UAE celebrates the International Women's Day in Diplomacy, with women working in the diplomatic corps, who represent a fundamental pillar in efforts to achieve a more peaceful and prosperous world. Emirati women represent more than 40% of the employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, working in several fields such as human rights, international law, humanitarian aid, international trade, and security, and the UAE has achieved one of the highest percentages in the region with regard to the number of working women. In the diplomatic field, where women occupy the position of ambassadors in different countries, including major countries, and the country is proud of their role in promoting world peace, and their contribution to making history.

His Highness added: "The work of female diplomats is one of the pillars of the success of the UAE's foreign policy, which emphasizes the importance of tolerance, cooperation, and dialogue between cultures. Research shows that women's participation in diplomacy leads to better results in the pursuit of peace in the world, and in this regard, the state mobilizes The UAE, as a member of the United Nations Security Council and Human Rights Council, supports global efforts to empower women and improve human well-being, as women are a key partner in the pursuit of justice, security and stability.

His Highness continued, "The UAE is aware of the importance of the influence that women's efforts contribute to in diplomacy, and we, in turn, offer them the encouragement they deserve, as they are a role model, a peacemaker, a high-energy woman and a pivotal role in diplomatic work."

Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, said in a tweet posted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on her Twitter account: "I am pleased that the United Nations has recognized the great role that women play in diplomacy by dedicating this day in appreciation of them. The UAE has always believed that Women are an integral part of the fabric of international cooperation, multilateral decision-making and conflict resolution. Women have contributed to shaping and improving the global diplomatic system as we know it today.
