KUWAIT'S CHICKEN SHORTAGE IS BEING LOOKED INTO BY COMPETITION PROTECTION AUTHORITY

  • 16/07/2022

Kuwait City: The Competition Protection Authority, under the supervision of the Minister of Commerce, is examining the files and conditions of poultry companies that contracted with distribution branches following the chicken shortage crisis two months ago. The Authority aims to protect competition and prevent practices. The Authority's objectives are to ensure consumer freedom of choice and to prevent monopolistic practices affecting the sector.

Consumers have been facing great hardship for two months now as they have not received their monthly entitlement of some subsidized food items. The agency has started calling the owners of the companies to find out the real reasons behind the crisis during this period. The situation was further complicated by selling at a higher price than the previous price during the period of chicken shortage.
