Kuwait's Emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, signed a proclamation on Tuesday naming Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah as the country's new prime minister.

Sheikh Mohammed has been tasked with forming a new government. The Emiri Diwan has not yet issued a comment.

The selection of a new prime minister comes three months after former Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Hamad Al-Sabah resigned, the fourth in the last two and a half years.

Sheikh Mohammed is the fourth son of Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, the previous ruler of Kuwait from 1965 to 1977. He served in several important posts, including deputy prime minister, foreign affairs minister and finance minister.
