According to emergency services, at least six persons were killed in floods in Tehran on Thursday, the majority in a landslide that poured mud four metres deep in a village to the west of the city.

Less than a week ago, floods in Iran's typically dry south claimed the lives of 22, and now there are flash floods close to the capital in the foothills of the Alborz mountains.

Social media videos from the Emamzadeh Davoud village showed a mud-covered youngster clinging to a pole as a torrent of debris-filled water rushed past him. A wall eventually collapses as time passes.

Iranian Red Crescent chief Pirhossein Kolivand stated on state television that "so far, five persons have been verified deceased and nine injured by the floodwaters in Emamzadeh Davoud," adding that several vehicles had been carried away.
