UKRAINE CONFLICT ; ZELENSKY ENCOURAGES WEST TO BAN RUSSIAN VISITORS

  • 09/08/2022

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on Western countries to bar all Russian tourists, to which the Kremlin has reacted angrily.

Mr Zelensky told The Washington Post that Russians should "live in their own universe until they reform their worldview."

He said that such a restriction would be more effective than the present penalties, which bar Russian airlines and Kremlin-connected officials.

Russians can still obtain visas to the EU and the US.

Mr. Zelensky's call may receive only limited support because, despite sanctions, Russia has substantial global commercial relationships and Russian tourists are still welcome in vacation locations such as Egypt, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.
