FIGHTS IN CAPITAL OF IRAQ RESULT IN AT LEAST 15 DEATHS

Clashes between Iraqi security forces and adherents of a powerful Shia cleric continued in Baghdad overnight, claiming at least 15 lives.

After Muqtada al-supporters Sadr's stormed the presidential palace, authorities claim that dozens more people were injured.

After Mr. Sadr announced his retirement from politics, there was unrest.

Following unrest in several other cities, Iraq's interim prime minister has appealed for calm and the military has imposed a national curfew.

Some of the worst violence to strike the Iraqi capital in recent years broke out overnight as fighters traded gunfire and tracer rounds lit up the night sky.
