PERUVIAN LGBTQ ACTIVISTS DEMAND AN AUTOPSY FOR BAIL DEATH

LGBTQ rights advocates demonstrated in front of the prosecutor's office on Wednesday to call for an autopsy on a transgender man from Peru who passed away earlier this month after being detained on Bali, a popular tourist destination in Indonesia.

32-year-old Harvard University graduate student Rodrigo Ventocilla passed away on August 11 at a hospital in Bali. He had been held since his arrival at the island's airport on August 6. Sebastian Marallano, his Peruvian husband, was also detained for attempting to assist Ventocilla. On their honeymoon, the Chilean-wed couple visited Bali.

The body of Ventocilla has been removed from Indonesia and is on its way to Lima; his family wants Peruvian authorities to determine the cause of death because they believe Ventocilla was mistreated by Indonesian authorities. Officials from Indonesia dispute that.
