CRITICISM OF THE IDEA OF CHARGING EXPATRIATES HIGHER SERVICE FEE

Kuwait City: Article against government plans to charge more government service fees on residents than citizens, saying it is a way to address budget deficits and raise non-oil revenues. Columnist Hassan Mustafa Al Mousavi criticized this move.

He pointed out that solving the budget deficit can be done not only by increasing revenue but also by reducing expenditure. About half of the annual budget goes to salaries. Instead of working to address this issue, the effort is to charge productive residents.

Expats are already experiencing hardships. Most of them live in underprivileged areas like Salmia and Hawalli. Infrastructure itself is virtually non-existent in those areas. At the same time, he pointed out that they suffer discrimination and injustice in salaries compared to citizens in government jobs, especially in the ministries of education and health.
