RARE NOVEMBER TROPICAL STORM HURRICANE NICOLE MAKES LANDFALL IN FLORIDA

  • 10/11/2022

Hurricane Nicole made landfall in Florida on Thursday with winds of 70 mph (110 kph), but it was later downgraded to a tropical storm because it slowed down. With forecasted heavy rain and storm surges, states of emergency still exist and evacuation orders are in place.

Nicole already tore through Grand Bahama Island as a powerful category one hurricane, though the extent of the destruction is still unclear. This size of a storm this late in the year is very uncommon.

Nicole is scheduled to visit Georgia and South Carolina after Florida. Later in the week, it might even reach Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York.

In Florida, hurricanes rarely occur in November. The Sunshine State has only experienced two hurricanes since records have been kept in 1853: 1935 and 1985.
