Phillippines Senate calls for ban on sending Filipinos to Kuwait

Kuwait City, Feb 17: Members of the Philippine Senate are stepping up calls for a complete ban on sending Overseas Filipino Workers to the nation even as the Philippine government looks for solutions to the problem of sending workers to Kuwait. Senate representatives said that Filipino workers cannot wait until the Kuwaiti government implements a stricter vetting process for employers following the murder of domestic worker Julby Ranala. 

During a Senate hearing, Senator Raffy Tulfo suggested that the appropriate recruitment firms should require employers to go through a more rigorous vetting process. The importance of developing a system to periodically assess the safety of Filipino workers was emphasized by Senator Jinggoy Estrada. Senator Christopher Go additionally urged the Philippine government to carry out a study of Filipino employment policies.
