Renewal of work permits for 16,000 expats suspended

Kuwait City, April 3: The Society of Engineers has proposed a project to the relevant authorities that intends to implement a system that approves employees in the construction, infrastructure, and engineering sectors to avoid mistakes and flaws in infrastructure projects. 

The majority of the 319,000 foreign workers in the construction industry, who are non-Arab Asians, according to statistics made public by the Civil Information Authority, specialize in the natural sciences and engineering. The Manpower Authority has also begun verifying the credentials of the approximately 16,250 expatriate employees in the financial, banking, and accounting industries. The authority has stopped renewing their work permits until it has confirmed the accuracy of their academic transcripts and job titles.
