One-third of wild vertebrate species are on the verge of extinction

The resplendent quetzal is noted for its plumage. In the pet industry, golden poison frogs are a well-liked species. Pangolin meat is used in medicine, and it is known as a delicacy. According to a recent study, those three creatures are among the third of all wild vertebrate species that humans consume and trade.

In a thorough examination of how humans affect a broad range of wildlife, researchers report in Communications Biology on June 29 that out of nearly 47,000 vertebrate species worldwide, humans exploit about 14,600 of them.
