The Ministry of Interior confirmed that the number of violators of the residency law who took advantage of the deadline launched by the Ministry last March to amend their status or leave the country reached about 70,000 violators. Colonel Othman Gharib, Head of the Press Department in the Public Relations and Security Media Department at the Ministry of Interior, said that 866,949 residency renewal transactions and 6,411 domestic worker residency transfers were completed, in addition to dealing with 740 complaints, suggestions and transactions.
As for the rate of committing crimes, Gharib explained that the number decreased from 1,167 crimes in the first half of 2023, to 1,016 in the first half of 2024. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior reiterated the necessity of taking the biometric fingerprint for all citizens and residents according to the previously announced deadline.
