The Food and Nutrition Authority has obligated all food facilities and factories, in addition to suppliers of food products, to comply with the trans fats regulation GSO 2483, which aims to remove industrial trans fatty acids. The authority stated that this decision comes as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the health and safety of consumers, and to achieve integrated cooperation between government agencies and the private sector to serve the public interest.
Authority explained, “This initiative is based on Gulf Technical Regulation 2483 regarding trans fats and product contents, as it outlines the potential health risks to the safety of society resulting from the consumption of industrial trans fats.” The Authority urged all food companies and suppliers to adhere to implementing the provisions of the regulation.
