Under the directive of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahd Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, has announced that life sentences will now be capped at 20 years.
A special committee will be formed to review the cases of inmates serving life sentences three months before completing their 20-year term. Authorities have been instructed to expedite the listing and evaluation of eligible inmates to ensure a smooth transition under the new policy.
This initiative aligns with Kuwait’s commitment to rehabilitation and judicial modernization, offering inmates a chance to reintegrate into society after completing their sentences.
The announcement was made during Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef’s visit to the Central Prison, where he met with inmates and their families. Officials emphasized that Kuwait’s correctional system is moving towards a more rehabilitative approach, ensuring that justice balances punishment with reform.
