Dubai: As Dubai sparkles in the festive spirit of Ramadan, Karama has become the heart of many celebrations. One of the city's oldest markets, Karama is a melting pot of cultures, flavors, and traditions, drawing hundreds of Malayalis every evening.
The streets are adorned with colorful lights, and shops are specially decorated to welcome Ramadan. The biggest attraction is the abundance of Kerala-style restaurants offering steaming Malabar biryani, chicken curry, fruit fritters, and beef paired with porotta. The familiar taste of kholuki sharbat and ada pradhaman makes Malayalis feel right at home.
Beyond the food, Karama is alive with music, poetry, henna art, and caricature drawings, adding a vibrant energy to the festive evenings. Families and friends gather to enjoy the festivities, making it a favorite spot for expatriate Malayalis.
"This place has a familiar energy, almost like home. Once Maghrib comes, the streets are filled with people. Malabari dishes and snacks are available in all the shops here. You won't feel homesick because you have everything you miss when you are away from Kerala," said Asheem PK, a Karama resident.
With Eid just a week away, Dubai is buzzing with excitement, and Karama remains the go-to destination for Malayalis seeking a taste of home in the heart of the city.
