French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Egypt next week and travel near the Gaza Strip, stopping in the Egyptian town of Arish, the Elysee Palace announced on Thursday. Macron is expected to meet humanitarian and security workers to emphasize his "constant mobilisation in favour of a ceasefire."
Meanwhile, Israel’s assault on Gaza continues, with Gaza's health ministry reporting at least 97 deaths in the past 24 hours. An Israeli airstrike killed at least 27 people, including women and children, inside a school sheltering displaced families. Israeli forces have also advanced into Rafah, pushing civilians to flee in one of the largest displacements of the war.
Gazans fear Israel’s expanding "security zone" could lead to permanent displacement, as large areas of the enclave are being seized. The ongoing conflict, which began with the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, has resulted in over 50,000 Palestinian deaths, according to Gaza health authorities.
