Netanyahu to Discuss Tariffs, Gaza Hostages, and ICC Warrant with Trump in Washington

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet former U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday to address several pressing issues, including new U.S. tariffs on Israeli goods, efforts to free hostages in Gaza, and the International Criminal Court's (ICC) arrest warrant against him.

Netanyahu’s office confirmed the trip on Saturday, stating that the prime minister will depart from Hungary on Sunday. The visit marks the first attempt by a foreign leader to directly negotiate with Trump over recently announced tariffs, which include a 17% duty on Israeli exports like machinery and medical equipment. This policy shift could significantly affect Israel, whose main trade partner is the U.S.

In their phone conversation on Thursday, Netanyahu reportedly raised concerns about the tariffs, prompting Trump to extend the invitation. The agenda will also include discussions on Israel’s relations with Turkey, ongoing tensions with Iran, and strategies to combat the ICC’s legal proceedings.

The ICC has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu over alleged war crimes in Gaza. Meanwhile, Israel recently scrapped its remaining tariffs on U.S. imports, strengthening trade ties under the long-standing free trade agreement signed four decades ago.
