Kuwait: The Chest Hospital in Kuwait has announced the successful implantation of coronary artery stents in two patients suffering from intractable angina, marking a significant advancement in local cardiac care.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Enezi, Head of the Cardiology Department, stated that such cases were previously referred abroad but are now being effectively managed within Kuwait. The procedures were performed under local anesthesia via the jugular vein, with the catheter inserted and the stents implanted to improve blood flow to the heart muscle.
The operations were carried out in collaboration with Dr. Khaled Al-Marri, Head of the Cardiac Catheterization Unit. Both patients had a history of severe coronary artery stenosis and had previously undergone therapeutic catheterization and open-heart surgeries. Despite this, they continued to suffer from intractable angina.
Following the procedures, the patients experienced significant improvement in their symptoms. Doctors highlighted that atherosclerosis remains a leading cause of death in Kuwait and globally, and this successful local intervention offers new hope for patients who don’t respond to conventional treatments.
