Islamic Affairs Ministry Commits to Reducing Prayer Times to Conserve Electricity

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs in Kuwaitconfirmed on Friday its full commitment to the Ministry of Electricity, Waterand Renewable Energy’s plan to conserve electricity by reducing prayer times inmosques.

In a statement reported by the Kuwait NewsAgency (KUNA), the Ministry announced that the time between the call to prayer(Adhan) and the start of prayers (Iqamah) will be limited to no more than tenminutes. The directive was communicated through a circular issued by BaderAl-Otaibi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Mosques Sector, instructing allimams and muezzins to adhere to the new timings.

The Ministry explained that this measure isnecessary due to the current high demand on the electrical grid and ongoingmaintenance at several power stations. It emphasized its full cooperation withthe Electricity Authority’s plan to rationalize energy use and called on allsectors to contribute to conserving electricity during this period.
