Kuwaiti authorities have arrested a mosque imam, preacher, and TV presenter holding a PhD for violating the country’s strict ban on unauthorized fundraising. The individual was reportedly sending payment links through WhatsApp to collect donations for various cases via his personal bank account.
An informed security source confirmed to Al-Rai that the ban on donation collection applies to all individuals and entities, not just charitable organizations. The source stated that any fundraising activity conducted via bank or electronic links — including through platforms like the "Wamd" service — will be closely monitored. Violators will be investigated and referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action.
The authorities emphasized that even sharing donation links or responding to such requests in good faith does not exempt anyone from accountability. The source warned citizens and residents not to use their personal accounts or engage with any such fundraising activities, highlighting that the ban applies universally and without exception.
