In response to global reports of rising HIV infections, Kuwait’s Ministry of Health has reinforced its commitment to safeguarding public health through strict preventive measures and medical screenings for incoming expatriates.
Dr. Munther Al-Hasawi, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs, stated that Kuwait employs a comprehensive surveillance system to block the entry of dangerous infectious diseases. As part of this system, medical checks are mandatory both before and after entry into Kuwait. Expatriates must undergo examinations at certified centers abroad, which are approved by Kuwaiti embassies, followed by further tests upon arrival in the country to obtain the necessary medical fitness certificate for residency.
These screenings include not only HIV, but also hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, and diseases such as malaria or filaria, depending on the origin country. The Ministry also mandates periodic testing for workers in specific professions, including food services, salons, health centers, and laundries.
Dr. Al-Hasawi emphasized that the Ministry continuously monitors global disease trends and updates health protocols accordingly to ensure community safety and reinforce Kuwait’s public health infrastructure.
