India and Kuwait Strengthen Ties in High-Level Talks on Trade, Defense, and Culture

Kuwait and India convened the seventh round of bilateral political consultations in New Delhi, led by Kuwait’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Sameeh Johar Hayat and India’s Vice Minister of External Affairs Arun Kumar Chatterjee. The talks focused on implementing agreements made during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kuwait in December 2024, where he met with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

Discussions covered a wide range of sectors, including trade, investment, defense, energy, artificial intelligence (AI), healthcare, civil aviation, and cultural exchange. Both nations emphasized their alignment on regional and international issues, particularly advocating for peaceful conflict resolutions. Ambassador Hayat highlighted the planned high-level visits and joint workshops throughout the year to deepen cooperation.

The meeting also addressed the role of the Indian community in Kuwait, which exceeds one million people and contributes significantly to sectors like construction and infrastructure. Kuwait’s Ambassador to India Meshal Al-Shamali and India’s Ambassador to Kuwait Dr. Adarsh Swaika attended the consultations, underscoring the commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties.

The talks reaffirmed the deep-rooted historical relationship between Kuwait and India, with both sides expressing optimism about future collaborations. The positive outcomes are expected to pave the way for enhanced economic partnerships and diplomatic coordination, reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two nations.
