The Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) in Abu Dhabi has implemented a new transportation policy for schools, prioritizing student safety, discipline, and convenience. A key change requires that all children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult when arriving at or leaving school. If a parent or designated adult is not present at the drop-off point, the child will be returned to the school after the bus route is completed.
The policy reinforces that schools bear the ultimate responsibility for student safety on buses, even when using third-party transport operators. This includes mandatory safety training for students and the requirement for bus supervisors on vehicles carrying children under 11 years old.
For families wishing to have an older sibling aged 15 or above pick up a younger sibling (from Grade 1 onwards), a signed parental consent form is mandatory. This form must confirm the parent's belief in the older sibling's maturity, their understanding of the responsibility, and it absolves the school of liability for any incidents that may occur during this handover.
