Kuwait has achieved a historic medical milestone by officially entering the Guinness World Records for performing the world's longest-distance transcontinental robotic surgery. The procedure covered 12,034.92 kilometers, connecting surgeons at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital in Kuwait with a patient at Cruz Vermelha Hospital in Brazil. The record was announced in a joint statement by the Ministry of Health, the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), and Zain Group, who partnered to make the achievement possible.
The successful surgery was led by a Kuwaiti surgical team consisting of Dr. Sulaiman Al-Muzaidi, Dr. Muhannad Al-Haddad, and Dr. Hamoud Al-Rashidi, in collaboration with Brazilian doctors. The teams performed a series of inguinal hernia repairs using advanced robotic systems connected by a secure, high-speed international network provided by Zain, which achieved an ultra-fast response time of just 199 milliseconds to ensure the operation's success.
Senior officials hailed the achievement as a testament to Kuwait's potential for global leadership in healthcare and technology. The Health Minister stated it proves the national healthcare system can achieve global feats, while KFAS and Zain emphasized that the record demonstrates how investing in science, innovation, and digital infrastructure can break down geographical barriers and directly improve human health, positioning Kuwait as a hub for medical innovation.
