Kuwait International Airport to Launch New Runway and Control Tower in Major Upgrade

Kuwait's aviation sector is poised for a major leap forward with the inauguration of a new third runway and a state-of-the-art control tower at Kuwait International Airport on October 30th. The new runway, one of the longest in the world at 4.58 kilometers, is designed to significantly increase aircraft handling capacity and enhance safety standards. The accompanying control tower, equipped with the latest technology, will be capable of managing over 600,000 takeoffs and landings annually.

These projects are central to a broader national strategy to modernize airport infrastructure, improve traveler services, and position Kuwait as a leading regional hub for air traffic and logistics. The developments are expected to create more than 20,000 job opportunities for Kuwaiti nationals and are supported by initiatives like the "Future Leaders Program" to train the next generation of aviation professionals. The government also emphasizes the successful model of involving the private sector in managing commercial operations to elevate service quality.

This infrastructure push includes the highly anticipated Terminal 2 (T2), described as the largest and most ambitious project in the airport's history. Combined with a new regulatory law that aligns with international standards, these efforts have already yielded positive results, as demonstrated by Kuwait's recent high score of 88% in an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) security audit, exceeding global benchmarks.
