Kuwait City:  A total of 32,000 expatriate driving licenses have been revoked this year. Licenses that do not meet the required conditions or are illegally obtained are revoked. In addition, the licenses of 2,400 Kuwaiti nationals have been revoked due to mental retardation and visual impairment. At the same time, from January to October this year, there was a 43 per cent drop in the number of driving licenses issued.

The number of driving licenses has been reduced from 72,000 to 41,000. Officials from the General Traffic Department said the license was issued only with very strict conditions, since it was linked to the Residence Affairs, the Manpower Authority and the Disability Authority. The licenses of expatriate students who hold a driving license after completing their studies have been blocked. At present, a residence permit can only be renewed if the license is transferred.
