Dammam :  Saudi officials confiscated an illegal tobacco factory in Saudi Arabia. In connection with this, the Saudi national, who is the owner of the factory, was sentenced to one year in prison and 10 Indians and Bangladeshi nationals were sentenced to six months in prison each. The sentence was passed by the Dammam Criminal Court.

All the accused have been fined heavily. A total fine of 720000 riyals was imposed. Authorities seized the factory, which was operating on a farm in the Qatweef region of the Saudi Eastern Province. The factory was found during a raid conducted by the investigation team following a tip-off.

The raid was conducted after it was noticed that the owner and workers of the plant were engaged in commercial activities without a license, preparing tobacco and molasses mixtures and falsifying commercial data and selling them in local markets by writing false information on the pack. The court ordered the closure of the plant and the destruction of the seized fake products.
