SWEDEN : MAN DIES IN SHOOTING AT MALMO SHOPPING CENTRE

  • 20/08/2022

According to police, a shooting at a Swedish shopping centre left one man dead and one woman hospitalised.

After hearing about 20 shots fired, shoppers at the Emporia mall in Malmo, Sweden's southern city, ran away in terror, according to Swedish outlet TV4.

Police believe the shooting was caused by gang tensions and have detained a teenage boy.

It occurs as Sweden prepares for general elections later this month, with gang violence topping voters' list of worries.

One of the highest gun-related homicide rates in Europe is still found in Sweden.

An official Swedish government report published last year stated that four in every million inhabitants die in shootings each year in Sweden.

In Europe the average is 1.6 people per million inhabitants.
