Saudi Arabia is revolutionizing its immigration procedures with the introduction of advanced smart technologies. Major General Saleh Al Murabba, Director General of Passports, revealed plans for several innovative systems including smart lanes that can process 35 travelers simultaneously using smart cameras, eliminating the need for passport officers.
A key initiative is the "self-deportation platform" - a digital system allowing individuals who have violated residency, labor, or border security regulations to complete their travel procedures online without physical intervention. The platform will launch once all security and technical aspects are finalized.
Another technology being implemented is "Digital Twinning," which uses models and data analysis to monitor crowd movement at airport terminals and measure passenger satisfaction with immigration services. This system was successfully tested during the recent Hajj season.
The official also highlighted that digital passports are already available through the "Absher" platform, with Saudi Arabia working on international agreements to expand their use. The country aims to transform all its ports into smart facilities using artificial intelligence tools, with over 100 digital services already benefiting 24 million users through the Absher platform last year. A smart voice agent service has also been launched at number 992 to provide 24/7 automated assistance.
